In the occation of Eurobike 2009 in Friedrichshafen, Germany, BATSO projekt manager Tim Schaefer gave an overview of safety issues in the electric mobility field. He especially referred to pedelecs, e-bikes, and green cars.

The BATSO program in Taiwan includes a presentation at LEV Conference, a contact center, and information sessions during Taipei Cycle Show.

TÜV Rheinland Group China has established a testing service for LEV batteries in South China. Tests for lithium batteries according to the BATSO 01 standard are performed at the new battery laboratory in Shenzhen. In Europe there are also a few qualified testing houses. The conditions of a large-scale electric scooter project in Taiwan are based on the BATSO 01 Manual.

With the release of BATSO 01 Manual on March 18, 2008 in Hsinchu, the BATSO project has reached an important milestone on the way towards safer batteries used in light electric vehicles. BATSO was a major topic at LEV Conference and Workshops in Taipei and Hsinchu on March 15 - 19, 2008.

On Nov 13, 2007, during a workshop for engineers, the BATSO testing standards for battery safety were discussed. Representatives of the international LEV industry showed a clear interest to join the Technical Committee and define the testing standards.

The 7th Meeting of the BATSO Working Group was held at ITRI Institute in Hsinchu, Taiwan, on October 25, 2007. The participants announced that they will soon complete the “BATSO 01 Manual for Evaluation of Energy Systems for Light Electric Vehicles (LEV)”.

Tim Schaefer, expert on safety and transport of lithium batteries, has been appointed Project Manager of Battery Safety Organization BATSO. He left GAIA Akkumulatorenwerke where he served as Company Secretary.
