The 7th Meeting of the BATSO Working Group was held at ITRI Institute in Hsinchu, Taiwan, on October 25, 2007. The participants announced that they will soon complete the “BATSO 01 Manual for Evaluation of Energy Systems for Light Electric Vehicles (LEV)”.
The “1st BATSO Manual for Evaluation of Energy Systems for Light Electric Vehicles (LEV) - Secondary Lithium” Batteries is scheduled to become effective in early 2008. It will allow first customers to conduct the BATSO tests. At present, there is an increasing demand for BATSO testing and certification service from leading industry players in Asia, Europe, and Northern America who are involved in LEV and mobile energy markets. Governmental authorities and non-governmental organizations have also shown interest in BATSO testing.
BATSO Project Info
The goal of the BATSO project is to create a test manual based on important safety and environmental aspects of batteries, which are used in Light Electric Vehicles (LEV). Both, current battery chemistries (Nickel-Metal-Hydride, Lithium-Ion) and future technologies (including fuel cells) will be taken into consideration for the creation of the manual. It will not only cover safety tests of similar battery standards such as IEC and UL tests. It will also include additional and mandatory requirements such as UN tests and environmental aspects.
BATSO standards will particularly provide manufacturers, importers, dealers and consumers with reliable information on the safety and ecological characteristics of batteries used in LEVs and mobile energy applications. The international industry is watching and supporting the developments of this BATSO Working Group. Representatives of the industry and its associations will be invited to join the Working Group at a later stage of project.
